DESCRIPTION:

An interview with reverend dr. candi dugas, from Church Within A Church Movement.

The Reverend Doctor Melissa Sexton is a post-doctoral fellow in the Satcher Health Leadership Institute at the Morehouse School of Medicine and an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church. Dr. Sexton is completing a practicum with the Interfaith Health Program as part of her fellowship; as part of that work, she is interviewing those with particular insights into the religious and spiritual dimensions of the COVID-19 outbreak and our responses to it.

The interview begins with dr. dugas discussing the importance of meditation in her life because it cultivates mindfulness and allows us to navigate life in support of holistic health and well-being. Melissa acknowledges how the call to stay-in-place was unsettling for her and candi discusses how her own meditative practices helped her to make this shift in her own life. Melissa and candi discuss various insights from meditative practice that can help others in the outbreak; these include the ideas of abundance, “sitting in the mud,” mindfulness in the moment, and awareness of the deeper truths that our immediate moments open up.
