DESCRIPTION:
Forging a New Commonwealth Together: An Interview with Dr. Leslie Harris, Professor of History, Northwestern University.
Dr. Harris’ work as a historian has focused on complicating the stories, impressions, and assumptions that many of those in the larger culture have about Black people. When on faculty at Emory University, Dr. Harris co-founded and directed the Transforming Communities Project from 2004-2011. Dr. Leslie Harris discusses her work to help communities face fears, with creative energy to forge a new commonwealth. This is a candid discussion that completes a series of conversations, originally focused on messaging in a pandemic, between healthcare and faith leaders; but, facing ourselves as a society now means recovery from generational wounds where the history of slavery in this country must now be addressed if we are to move into new futures of health for all.
